Zombie Zodiacs Capricorn – 2 Troy Ounces – 39mm
An ancient sea-goat, reimagined from horn to tail.
Capricorn’s unlikely blend of goat and fish becomes an undead creature in Intaglio Mint’s Zombie Zodiacs series. Sweeping horns, exposed ribs, and a curling aquatic tail make this one of the collection’s most distinctive silhouettes. Two troy ounces of .999 fine silver give the 39mm round a substantial feel, with a Brilliant Uncirculated finish that brings its contrasting textures into focus.
The Sea-Goat’s Ancient Roots
The sea-goat belongs to a much older tradition than modern horoscope imagery. Its combination of goat and fish appears in ancient Babylonian representations of Capricornus. Greek stories later linked the constellation with Pan, who tried to escape the monster Typhon by changing into a fish but transformed only his lower half. The hybrid form has invited imaginative storytelling for centuries.
A Creature Curled Into the Design
The obverse uses the round’s circular space to frame the sea-goat’s coiling body. Large ridged horns arch above its decayed head, and an exposed rib cage leads into a long tail ending in flowing fins. The creature’s curved pose contrasts with the precise concentric lines behind it. The Capricorn symbol appears above, with “CAPRICORN” along the lower portion.
The reverse returns to the series’ shared celestial scene: a zombie Moon and Sun with radiating lines, encircled by twelve astrological symbols. Together, the two sides pair Capricorn’s individual creature with the complete zodiac.
