Scarab – 2 oz Silver Round

Ancient symbolism meets modern silver craftsmanship in Intaglio Mint’s Scarab round. The stylized beetle is rendered in ultra-high relief and embellished with micro-engraved details, creating a distinctive centerpiece for the Silver Bug series. Struck in 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, the compact 39mm round combines a deep-domed radial background with an approximately 6mm-thick profile.

A Symbol of Renewal

In ancient Egypt, the scarab became a powerful symbol of rebirth. Egyptians observed dung beetles rolling balls along the ground and associated that movement with the sun’s daily journey across the sky. The beetle’s emergence from the earth also suggested the appearance of new life, helping connect its image with renewal.

Scarab-shaped amulets were worn and used over many centuries. The Metropolitan Museum of Art explains that they also served as seals during the Middle and New Kingdoms, combining a recognizable sculptural form with a practical use. This long history gives the scarab a meaning beyond its natural shape. Intaglio Mint’s esoteric interpretation draws on that enduring fascination through a modern decorative design.

Obverse Design

A stylized scarab occupies the center, with extended legs, patterned body sections and intricate engraved ornament. The symmetrical composition and ultra-high relief give the beetle a strong sculptural outline. A deep-domed radial burst radiates outward into a stippled border bearing “ALL HAIL THE SILVERBUG” above and “IN SILVER WE TRUST” below.

Reverse Design

The Intaglio Mint logo is set against a radial burst, continuing the visual rhythm of the obverse. The surrounding stippled border reads “TWO TROY OUNCES” and “.999 FINE SILVER,” with lightning bolts between the inscriptions. These markings identify the silver content while keeping the mint emblem at the center of the design.
