Bugsy Siegel – Legends of Las Vegas 1 Troy Ounce Silver Round
A suit, a cigar, and a name inseparable from the Flamingo: Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel represents a turbulent chapter in the story of Las Vegas. This Intaglio Mint portrait round pairs his recognizable image with a casino-inspired reverse, presenting the Legends of Las Vegas theme in one troy ounce of .999 fine silver.
The Flamingo and the Making of a Legend
Siegel’s association with the Flamingo is central to his reputation, but the project did not begin with him. Billy Wilkerson purchased the land and started building in 1945, before Siegel became involved. Remembering that earlier role gives a fuller picture of a resort whose history is often reduced to a single famous name.
The Flamingo opened on December 26, 1946. Its fashionable, elegant approach helped point Las Vegas toward a different kind of resort experience, moving beyond the Old West themes associated with earlier properties. Siegel’s role in the project connected the promise of that new image with the realities of organized crime and contested control.
The Mob Museum preserves a document signed by Siegel on March 19, 1947, formally removing Wilkerson from involvement in the Flamingo. Later that year, Siegel was killed in Beverly Hills. His death and the resort’s subsequent history ensured that his name would remain part of the city’s mythology.
This round brings those contrasts together: polished appearance, casino glamour, and a troubled historical legacy. It is a portrait of a notorious figure within the larger story of Las Vegas.
