Product Details
Chac-Mool – 1 Troy Oz .999 Fine Silver Round | Legado Mexicano Series
Description:
An enigmatic guardian of temples, rituals, and sacred offerings—struck in radiant .999 fine silver.
Few sculptural forms are as immediately recognizable—or as mysterious—as the Chac-Mool. Found throughout ancient Mesoamerica, these reclining stone figures are distinguished by their raised knees, supported torso, and head turned sharply to one side. Examples have been discovered at important ceremonial centers including Chichén Itzá, Tula, and Tenochtitlán, revealing a tradition shared across several Mesoamerican cultures.
Positioned near temples and sacred spaces, Chac-Mool figures commonly supported a bowl or receptacle upon the abdomen. These vessels are believed to have received ceremonial offerings such as food, incense, feathers, and other gifts intended for the gods. Their exact identity remains uncertain, although many scholars interpret them as warriors, guardians, or intermediaries standing between the earthly and divine realms.
This distinctive release from Intaglio Mint recreates the ancient Chac-Mool in exceptional sculptural detail. The obverse portrays the figure in its characteristic reclining position, resting upon a stone platform with its knees raised and head turned outward. The restrained composition emphasizes the statue’s rigid posture, geometric features, and timeless sense of watchful stillness.
Encircling the figure is the name CHAC-MOOL, framed by a repeating geometric border inspired by ancient Mesoamerican ornamentation. The inscription CULTURA MESOAMERICANA appears below, recognizing the sculpture’s presence across the interconnected civilizations of pre-Columbian Mexico.
The reverse features Mexico’s historic coat of arms—the eagle perched atop a cactus while grasping a serpent—surrounded by the inscriptions INTAGLIO MINT and LEGADO MEXICANO. The Spanish hallmark UNA ONZA TROY · LEY .999 PLATA identifies the round’s weight and purity while preserving the cultural character of the design.
Struck in one troy ounce of .999 fine silver and produced entirely in-house in the USA, this 39mm round showcases Intaglio Mint’s dedication to deeply sculpted relief, intricate engraving, and exceptional craftsmanship. The brilliant uncirculated finish accentuates the Chac-Mool’s monumental form and the finely engraved textures of its ancient stone inspiration.
An enduring tribute to one of Mesoamerica’s most mysterious ceremonial figures—where archaeology, ritual, and ancient artistry are immortalized in fine silver.
