Crazy Horse – 2 Troy Ounces .999 Fine Silver Round
Remember an influential Oglala Lakota leader with Crazy Horse from the Wild West Legends Series. This two-ounce silver round honors his place in the history of resistance on the northern Plains, pairing an artistic portrait with the series’ familiar Western reverse.
Leadership on the Northern Plains
Crazy Horse, known in Lakota as Tashunka Witco, defended his people’s land and way of life during a period of profound upheaval. His reputation grew through the conflicts that culminated in the Great Sioux War of 1876–1877, including his participation at the Little Bighorn in June 1876.
His story continued beyond that famous victory. In 1877, facing the pressures of an extended military campaign, he and his followers surrendered near Camp Robinson in Nebraska. He died there later that year after being wounded during an attempt to confine him. His death remains an important and deeply painful episode in the history of the Plains.
There is no historically verified photograph of Crazy Horse. That distinction matters when viewing later representations: portraits such as this one are artistic tributes, not authenticated photographic likenesses. The round commemorates his legacy through interpretation while inviting a closer look at the history behind the familiar name.
Obverse Design
An artistic portrait presents Crazy Horse with feathers, braids, and traditional attire. The composition gives the figure a strong central presence, emphasizing the commemorative purpose of the design rather than claiming a documented likeness.
Reverse Design
The Wild West Legends reverse features its longhorn skull motif, crossed rifles, and decorative Western elements. This shared composition connects the round with the broader series while the obverse focuses on an individual whose story reaches far beyond frontier legend.
