Alien Abduction Cows – 1 Troy Ounce .999 Fine Silver Round
Just another quiet day in the pasture—until the visitors arrive. Alien Abduction Cows gives a familiar science-fiction scenario a thoroughly barnyard twist, capturing a UFO’s unexpected interest in livestock in one troy ounce of .999 fine silver.
Close Encounters of the Bovine Kind
The joke needs no complicated backstory. Cows belong in a field; a mysterious craft and a lifting beam most certainly do not. Putting those worlds together creates a little scene that is both instantly recognizable and delightfully absurd. Whatever the visitors traveled across the galaxy to find, they seem to have settled on the local herd.
Flying saucers became a major part of popular culture after pilot Kenneth Arnold reported unusual objects near Mount Rainier in 1947. The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum traces that year’s wave of reports and publicity as a turning point in the modern fascination with unidentified objects in the sky. This round takes that familiar imagery into the realm of playful fiction.
The design is a small story told in relief: an ordinary landscape interrupted by something extraordinary. For a collection filled with solemn portraits and historic emblems, a little interplanetary mischief makes a welcome change of pace.
Obverse Design
A UFO uses a tractor-beam-style device to abduct cows from a pasture. The contrast between the spacecraft above and the rural scene below supplies the visual punch line, inviting a closer look at the miniature encounter unfolding across the round.
Reverse Design
The high-relief Intaglio Mint logo sits on a radial burst, framed by a stippled border. ONE TROY OUNCE appears above and .999 FINE SILVER below, with stars flanking the inscriptions. The reverse pairs the whimsical scene with a clear statement of the round’s silver content.
