Alien Abduction – Cats: A Close Encounter of the Feline Kind

If visitors from another world came looking for Earth’s most intriguing inhabitants, cats might make the shortlist. This 1 troy ounce .999 fine silver round gives the familiar alien-abduction scene a feline twist, with a UFO collecting an entire group of cats in a tractor beam. It is an unlikely encounter with plenty of room for a cat lover’s imagination.

Earthly Companions, Cosmic Curiosity

The real relationship between people and cats reaches deep into the past. A cat buried close to a human at a site on Cyprus roughly 9,500 years ago provides striking evidence of an early association. Archaeological finds like this help researchers explore how cats became part of human communities, long before the modern house cat claimed the sofa.

This round takes that enduring fascination somewhere much less familiar. Its science-fiction premise imagines the observers becoming the observed: the animals that spend so much time surveying our homes are suddenly the subject of an extraterrestrial collection mission. Whether the visitors have found ideal companions or more trouble than they expected is left delightfully unresolved.

Design Details

Obverse: A UFO uses a tractor-beam-like device to abduct a group of cats—a clowder. The recognizable abduction motif and unexpected feline passengers create the design’s central joke, making the scene an easy conversation starter.

Reverse: The high-relief Intaglio Mint logo appears over a radial burst, enclosed by a stippled border. “ONE TROY OUNCE” and “.999 FINE SILVER” identify the round, with stars completing the surrounding design.
