UFOs Over Tokyo – Something Strange Above the Skyline
Tokyo’s towers have unexpected company. Flying saucers cross the sky while a giant reptilian creature peers out among the buildings, turning the city into a miniature science-fiction scene. This 1 troy ounce .999 fine silver round from Intaglio Mint’s UFO Sightings & Alien Abduction Series combines a densely detailed skyline with a playful sense of spectacle.
A City with Layers of History
Before it was Tokyo, the city was known as Edo, the seat of the Tokugawa shogunate. It was renamed Tokyo in 1868 during the Meiji Restoration. That change marked a new chapter in the development of the modern metropolis, whose familiar image now brings together older traditions and ambitious architecture.
This design takes that recognizable urban setting into the realm of imagination. The saucers and monster are fictional visitors, not a record of a documented sighting. Their presence changes the mood of the entire cityscape, inviting collectors to find the smaller details tucked between the buildings.
Obverse Design
Multiple disc-shaped UFOs hover above a layered skyline. A mountain rises behind the towers, while the creature among the buildings adds a second surprise below the airborne visitors. Closely packed structures fill the foreground, contrasting with the open sky above.
Reverse Design
The high-relief Intaglio Mint logo sits over a radial burst. A stippled border carries “ONE TROY OUNCE” and “.999 FINE SILVER,” with the year 2023 flanking the central design.
