2023 Mint Club #4 Dragon – Artist Original Silver Round
A sinuous dragon moves through water and clouds in this Artist Original release for the 2023 Mint Club. The design fills a 39mm silver round with curling forms, scales and sweeping movement, giving the legendary creature a lively presence. This fourth Mint Club release contains 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, with a stated total mintage of 500 and presentation in a CoinSafe capsule.
Dragons, Clouds and Water
The combination of a dragon with water and clouds has a long history in East Asian art. In Chinese tradition, dragons are associated with rivers, lakes and rain. Their appearances in paintings and decorative objects can express the power of the natural world, as well as auspicious meanings such as benevolence and protection.
Museum collections preserve this visual tradition in many forms. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Chinese ceramics include dragons moving among clouds, while painted hanging scrolls bring the same creatures into scenes of mist and waves. That context adds another way to enjoy this modern design: its watery setting belongs to a much older language of dragon imagery.
Movement Across the Silver
The creature’s twisting body leads the eye around the round. Its raised claws, curling whiskers and textured scales contrast with the smoother motion of the surrounding water and clouds. Rather than presenting the dragon as a static emblem, the composition suggests a powerful being caught in motion, with details that reward a closer look.
