This 1 troy ounce .999 fine silver round captures a bald eagle with its beak open, framed by brilliant radial lines and bold lettering. It is a forceful portrait of a bird whose story reaches beyond heraldry into American conservation history.

From National Emblem to Conservation Success

The bald eagle became a central American emblem in 1782, when it was selected for the Great Seal of the United States. Its image has since appeared throughout the nation’s coinage and official symbolism, making the distinctive white-headed bird immediately recognizable.

That familiar image once stood in sharp contrast to the species’ fortunes in the wild. By the early 1960s, only a few hundred nesting pairs remained in the lower 48 states. Restrictions on DDT, habitat protection and coordinated recovery efforts helped reverse the decline. In 2007, the bald eagle recovered sufficiently to be removed from the federal list of threatened and endangered species. Its survival gives the traditional themes of strength and endurance a concrete, living example.

A Reworked Eagle Portrait

The left-facing eagle dominates the obverse, with an open beak and strongly modeled head. Brilliant radial lines spread through the field, emphasizing the portrait’s outward energy. “SCREAMING” arcs across the top and “EAGLE” follows the lower circumference, with stars flanking the design. The revised sculpt makes the head’s detail and relief the focal point, while the surrounding inscriptions give it a clear, balanced frame.

On the reverse, the large Intaglio Mint logo sits within a plain border reading “ONE TROY OUNCE” above and “.999 FINE SILVER” below, flanked by stars. The Screaming Eagle design is also offered in a 2 troy ounce version.
