Garden Gnomes – A Well-Earned Naptime
Even a garden gnome needs a break. On Intaglio Mint’s Naptime round, a sleepy little character rests beneath a mushroom with a chubby bunny for company. The peaceful scene is captured in 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, bringing the imaginative world of the garden down to a 39 mm circle.
A Small World Within the Garden
Garden figures invite us to see ordinary surroundings at a different scale. A mushroom becomes shelter, an animal becomes a companion, and a quiet corner becomes the setting for a story. Naptime makes that transformation with an especially gentle touch, choosing rest rather than activity as its central moment.
There is a documented history behind this kind of miniature garden storytelling. At Lamport Hall in England, Sir Charles Isham created a nineteenth-century rockery and populated it with gnomes imported from Nuremberg. Historic England records that they were arranged around caves and crevices to suggest tiny miners at work. Such scenes made the landscape feel inhabited by characters with lives of their own.
Under a Mushroom Umbrella
This design imagines one of those characters off duty. The obverse shows a gnome napping beneath a mushroom beside a plump bunny. The mushroom gives the scene its sense of scale, while the rabbit supplies a friendly companion. Together, the three elements form a compact woodland vignette that rewards a closer look.
The subject’s appeal is its simplicity: no grand adventure is needed for a memorable scene. A quiet rest, an oversized shelter and an animal friend are enough to suggest a whole little world beyond the edge of the round.
The reverse features the large Intaglio Mint logo within a plain border, with “ONE TROY OUNCE” above, “.999 FINE SILVER” below and flanking stars.
