Zombie Zodiacs Cancer – 2 Troy Ounces – 39mm
The celestial crab takes a sinister turn.
A skull-faced crab brings an unmistakable horror twist to Cancer in Intaglio Mint’s Zombie Zodiacs series. Broad claws, jointed legs, and a grinning skeletal face combine into a creature that is equal parts sea life and nightmare. Struck in 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, this 39mm round gives the intricate creature room to dominate the design.
A Small Creature in a Hero’s Story
In Greek mythology, Hera sent a crab to interfere with Hercules as he fought the Hydra. The crab was crushed, but Hera rewarded its service with a place among the stars. That story connects Cancer with one of antiquity’s best-known heroic cycles; the undead treatment here gives the small challenger a much more threatening appearance.
From Shell to Skull
The central skull shape is the design’s defining surprise. Hollow-looking eye sockets, teeth, and elongated fangs transform the crab’s body into an unsettling face. Its large pincers frame the lower part of the portrait, while the articulated legs spread outward against a field of fine concentric lines. The Cancer glyph sits above, with the sign’s name below.
On the reverse, a zombie Moon and Sun share the center of the round. Radiating lines and the twelve zodiac symbols connect Cancer with the rest of the collection, giving each sign a distinct obverse and a common celestial reverse.
