Sic Semper Tyrannis – 1 AVDP Oz .999 Fine Copper Round | Veritas Numisma Series
Thus always to tyrants — a warning, a verdict, and a call to justice. Sic Semper Tyrannis joins the Veritas Numisma Series as a bold declaration against oppressive power. Translating to “Thus Always to Tyrants,” this enduring Latin maxim has become a powerful emblem of resistance across history.
Struck in .999 fine copper, this 1 oz AVDP round measures 39mm and delivers a stark and evocative design: a crowned skeleton slumped on a throne of skulls, draped in tattered royal robes and surrounded by the detritus of violence and decay. Above, the banner unfurls with the words Sic Semper Tyrannis, a phrase spoken not in warning but judgment. The reverse features the series’ iconic design — a robed skeletal philosopher holding a torch beneath the motto “Enduring Latin Maxims,” framed by the Veritas Numisma title.
The Maxim
“Sic Semper Tyrannis” has long symbolized the fate of tyrants — from ancient Rome to the American Revolution and beyond. This powerful phrase suggests that the fall of despotism is not an exception, but a rule of history. The imagery on this round underscores the maxim’s grim truth: tyranny may rise, but it always ends the same.
