UFOs Over the Great Wall of China – An Unexpected Arrival
A monument built to guard a frontier meets visitors arriving from an entirely different direction. UFOs Over the Great Wall of China brings a playful science-fiction twist to one of the world’s most recognizable landmarks, struck in 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver by Intaglio Mint.
A Frontier Built Across Centuries
The Great Wall is the work of many generations. Around 220 BC, Qin Shi Huang connected earlier fortifications into a defensive system. Later rulers continued building and rebuilding, with major surviving masonry sections associated with the Ming dynasty, which ruled from 1368 to 1644.
Its defenses included towers, fortified passes and supporting structures as well as walls. Sections followed the terrain, making the landscape part of the defensive plan. That long development is central to the Wall’s historical interest: it records changing construction methods and strategic needs across successive Chinese empires.
Historic Landmark, Fictional Visitors
The obverse places UFOs above the Great Wall, pairing an earthbound fortification with the possibility of an encounter from the sky. The familiar landmark anchors the design, while the unexpected visitors supply its sense of humor and mystery.
The scene is imaginative artwork, not a claim about a documented sighting or the Wall’s construction. It invites collectors to enjoy the contrast between human history and classic extraterrestrial fantasy. Within the UFO Sightings & Alien Abduction Series, the design adds a distinctly Chinese setting to the journey through famous places.
