The Latin inscription surrounding the portrait translates as, “May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death.”
The reverse presents the iconic Cross of Saint Benedict beneath the word “PAX,” meaning “Peace.” Within and around the cross appear the initials of powerful Latin prayers. “C.S.S.M.L.” represents Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux—“May the Holy Cross be my light”—while “N.D.S.M.D.” represents Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux—“Let not the dragon be my guide.”
