TRICKERY, TREACHERY, TYRANNY & TREASON SERIES
Treason – T4 Series 1 Troy Ounce Silver Round
The symbols of loyalty become part of a scene of betrayal. Treason depicts Lady Liberty in the grasp of a crowned figure draped in the stars and stripes, her torch still in hand as his sword strikes her. This 1 troy ounce .999 fine silver round gives the T4 series one of its most direct and forceful allegories.
When Symbols Tell the Story
The Statue of Liberty is formally named Liberty Enlightening the World, with its raised torch representing enlightenment. The National Park Service traces the monument’s place as a symbol of freedom and democracy, meanings that have made its image recognizable far beyond New York Harbor.
Here, those associations are deliberately unsettled. The crown has passed to the attacking figure, the flag surrounds him, and Liberty is the victim rather than the triumphant central presence. Her remaining grip on the torch gives the composition its emotional focus: the ideal survives in the very image of its betrayal. The design belongs to the language of allegory, using symbolic figures to explore the series’ themes.
Obverse Design
Treason sits wearing Lady Liberty’s crown and draped in the stars and stripes. He holds a sword in his right hand while Liberty is caught in his grasp, the blade piercing her chest. Liberty weakly clasps her torch, preserving the familiar emblem amid the violence of the scene.
Reverse Design
The common T4 reverse gathers the four threats into one composition. Liberty’s face is divided between cracked plaster and skeleton, surrounded by knives, snakes and a rat skull. The blades bear the names “TREASON,” “TREACHERY,” “TRICKERY” and “TYRANNY.” Above is the banner “POWER – CORRUPTION – LIES,” with the hallmark along the lower circumference.
