Liberty as a Living Symbol

Artists have long given abstract ideas human form. At the United States Capitol, the Statue of Freedom turns the concept of freedom into a robed female figure, while other allegorical works use figures and familiar objects to express law, justice and civic ideals. This visual language lets a single scene carry an argument without a lengthy explanation.

Treachery uses that tradition to portray freedom under threat from deception. Liberty is neither passive nor entirely reassured. Her concealed readiness makes the encounter a contest of awareness as much as strength, fitting the series’ examination of trickery, treachery, tyranny and treason.

Obverse Design

Treachery embraces Lady Liberty, offering words of trust and loyalty that mask his intentions. Liberty holds a knife in her right arm, unconvinced by the display. “TREACHERY” above names the danger represented by the scene rather than a particular historical person or event.

Reverse Design

Liberty’s face appears at the bottom center, divided between cracked plaster and exposed skeleton. Knives bear the four series titles, accompanied by snakes and a rat skull. Above, the banner reads “POWER – CORRUPTION – LIES,” while the hallmark follows the lower circumference. The damaged face and surrounding blades unite the series through a stark image of ideals under assault.
