Red Horse is the powerful second release in Intaglio Mint’s Seven Seals of the Apocalypse series, an ambitious collection inspired by the prophetic visions recorded in the Book of Revelation. Representing warfare, bloodshed, and the removal of peace from the earth, the rider of the red horse is among the most fearsome figures of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
The obverse captures the horseman in a moment of violent forward motion, mounted upon a rearing steed and wielding the great sword given to him. His flowing robes and the horse’s wild mane sweep through the composition as flames rise around them. Behind the rider, weapons of war and scenes of destruction reinforce the chaos unleashed by the opening of the second seal.
The biblical passage from Revelation 6:4 follows the lower curve of the design:
“And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.”
The common reverse unites the Seven Seals of the Apocalypse series beneath a richly symbolic design drawn from the Book of Revelation. At its center appears the Lamb, representing Christ, surrounded by the four living creatures—the lion, ox, man, and eagle. Above rests the sealed scroll, awaiting the breaking of each successive seal and the unfolding of the apocalyptic vision.
