Notre-Dame II – 1 AVDP Oz .999 Fine Copper Round | Gargoyles of the World Series
Celebrate the macabre artistry of Gothic architecture with the Notre-Dame Goat Gargoyle copper round, the second release in our Gargoyles of the World Series. Perched atop the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, this enigmatic creature embodies the eerie charm of Gothic-inspired sculpture.
Struck in .999 fine copper, this 1 oz AVDP round measures 39mm and features a detailed depiction of the goat-headed gargoyle gazing pensively over the rooftops of Paris, with the unmistakable silhouette of the Eiffel Tower in the distance. The reverse displays the series’ signature design — an elaborate gothic window motif framing the title Gargoyles of the World, topped with a winged gargoyle emblem.
The Legend
Notre-Dame’s decorative chimeras were added during its nineteenth-century restoration under Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. They differ from the cathedral’s rain-draining gargoyles: their purpose is sculptural rather than hydraulic. The horned creature depicted here evokes the fantastic bestiary of the Gothic Revival, bringing an expressive, watchful presence to the Paris skyline.
A captivating addition for collectors who admire the intersection of myth, architecture, and artistry.
