Fish Monger – 2 Troy Ounce Silver Round
The fishmonger looks quite pleased with today’s catch! Dressed for the job and holding a fish almost as impressive as his grin, this feline character brings an old trade into Intaglio Mint’s playful Cat Theme collection. The round contains 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver in a 39mm format.
An Old Trade with a Feline Twist
A fishmonger is a seller of fish, and the occupation has a long history in market life. London’s Fishmongers’ Company received its first Royal Charter in 1272, with groups of traders already cooperating before that date. Such organizations helped govern their trades while also providing social and charitable support for members.
This round gives that human occupation an unlikely practitioner. The large fish is displayed proudly across the cat’s chest, turning a simple market scene into a joke about a seller who may be especially interested in his own stock. There is no need for a caption to explain his satisfaction.
The Catch of the Day
The character’s hooded clothing, broad smile and carefully held fish give the portrait a storybook quality. The fish stretches diagonally across the composition, balancing the upright figure and drawing attention to the day’s prize. Clothing folds, whiskers and fish scales offer different textures within the small scene.
The open field around the figure keeps the composition easy to read, while the expression supplies its personality. It is a lighthearted subject for cat enthusiasts, fishing fans or anyone who enjoys animal characters taking their imagined professions very seriously.
