The Alamo – Texas Series 2 Troy Ounce Silver Round

Our “Don’t Mess with Texas” series showcases some of the iconic things that make Texas so special. The fifth design brings us to the Alamo, where a small mission complex became one of the most recognizable places in Texas history. Struck in 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, this round pairs a depiction of the landmark with the series’ distinctive longhorn-skull reverse.

From Mission to Battleground

The Alamo’s story began long before the Texas Revolution. Founded in 1718 as Mission San Antonio de Valero, it belonged to the Spanish mission system that helped shape San Antonio. Its later military role gave the former religious complex a very different place in the region’s history.

In 1836, the Alamo became a defensive position during the struggle for Texas independence from Mexico. Mexican forces under Antonio López de Santa Anna arrived on February 23. The siege culminated in the assault of March 6, remembered as the thirteenth day. William B. Travis, James Bowie and David Crockett were among the defenders whose names became inseparable from the site.

A Letter That Outlived the Siege

On February 24, Travis wrote his appeal “To the People of Texas & All Americans in the World,” asking for reinforcements while the garrison was surrounded. That letter remains an enduring part of the Alamo story: a personal message written under immediate pressure that became a historical document read by generations. The round offers a compact tribute to the place behind that story, bringing architecture, memory and Texas identity together in silver.

Design Details

Obverse: A depiction of the Alamo places the historic San Antonio landmark at the center of the design.

Reverse: The common Texas series design features a longhorn skull with a star centered on its forehead. An oak branch appears to the right and an olive branch to the left. “DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS” follows the lower circumference, with the hallmark at 6 o’clock.
