Alexander Hamilton – 3 oz Hand-Hammered Silver Medal

American history meets the irregular character of hand-worked silver in this Alexander Hamilton medal. Struck in 3 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, the American Ancients design pairs a high-relief portrait with Treasury symbolism and a patinated finish. The edition is limited to 500 pieces.

The First Secretary of the Treasury

Alexander Hamilton served as the nation’s first Secretary of the Treasury from 1789 to 1795. A former military aide to George Washington, he helped establish the structure of the new department as the constitutional government began its work. That connection makes the Treasury emblem on the reverse a direct counterpart to his portrait.

The emblem’s components carry specific meanings: the balance scales represent justice, the key signifies official authority, and the thirteen stars on the chevron recall the original states. Together, they turn the reverse into a compact statement about the responsibilities of national finance.

Hand-Hammered Character

The edges are hand-hammered before the medal is hot struck under high-relief dies. Each piece is centered by eye while red hot and struck without a retaining collar. This individual handling produces variations in outline and surface character, giving every medal its own appearance. The combination of historic American imagery and an ancient-inspired fabrication style defines the American Ancients concept.

Obverse Design

A high-relief Hamilton bust, patterned after a U.S. Mint medallion likeness, is set against a radial starburst. “LIBERTY” spreads across the upper field. The undated composition concentrates attention on the face and the broad rays behind it, while the patina emphasizes the contrast between raised detail and recessed surfaces.

Reverse Design

The Treasury emblem is framed by a laurel wreath. A numbering placard sits below, with the hallmark between the emblem and placard. The uneven, hand-worked perimeter gives the formal heraldic design a distinctive sculptural setting.

Note to collectors: Being hand fabricated, hot struck, and antiqued, these medals will exhibit some small irregularities that are not considered to be detracting. Great care is taken to ensure there are no glaring inclusions that might diminish eye-appeal while still remaining true to the nature of the fabrication techniques employed.
