2024 Kennedy Half with $10 Indian Obverse – Overstrike Series #6

We have acquired a large hoard of 1964 Kennedy Halves for our new Overstrike series. We are overstriking them with images of famous U.S. coinage obverses and a common reverse that celebrates the series. In the first product of the series, we have redated the iconic Peace Dollar with the current year (2024). We will issue a new product in the series each month and update the year on each design in subsequent years. In 2024, ONLY 250 pieces will be minted for each product.

About the $10 Indian

Augustus Saint-Gaudens designed the Indian Head $10 eagle as part of the artistic renewal of American coinage encouraged by President Theodore Roosevelt. Introduced in 1907, its obverse presents Liberty wearing a feathered headdress; the original gold coin pairs that portrait with a standing eagle.

The design was used through 1933, with interruptions in production, and became the final circulating type of the ten-dollar gold denomination. Its sculptural portrait remains a distinctive part of Saint-Gaudens’ numismatic legacy alongside his better-known twenty-dollar double eagle.

This Overstrike Series piece reinterprets the portrait on a 1964 Kennedy half dollar, with the date 2024 and the series’ own reverse. Its 90% silver host and modern overstrike design distinguish it from the original gold eagle.

• Reverse: “OVERSTRIKE SERIES” above and below the obverse image of the 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar with the Intaglio Mint Logo flanked by stars on the left and right.  “1964 KENNEDY HALF,” “12.50 GRAMS,” TOTAL MINTAGE: 250,” “90% AG,” and “10% CU” around the outer circumference.

Note to collectors: Because this product is overstruck on another coin that has spent 60 years in circulation, each item will be unique and have its own characteristics. Some will be brighter than others, and the position of the devices, both overstruck and original will also differ from one to another.
