UFOs Over Las Vegas – Visitors Beyond the Strip
Las Vegas is used to putting on a show, but this time the main attraction is overhead. A formation of flying saucers hovers above a skyline of familiar resort landmarks, palm trees, and the celebrated welcome sign. Our 1 troy ounce .999 fine silver round turns the city’s larger-than-life atmosphere into an imaginative encounter from the UFO Sightings & Alien Abduction Series.
A Welcome Sign with a Story
The “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign was designed by Betty Willis in 1959 while she worked at Western Neon. Its distinctive shape, lettering, and starburst helped turn a roadside greeting into an enduring symbol of the city. The Neon Museum preserves the story of Willis and the signmakers whose work shaped the visual identity of Las Vegas.
On this round, that familiar greeting anchors a very unfamiliar arrival. The design mixes recognizable city imagery with the flying-saucer language of science fiction. It is a playful imagined visitation, with the welcome sign seemingly addressing an entirely new kind of tourist.
Design Details
Obverse: Flying saucers occupy the open sky above a compact Las Vegas scene. The welcome sign stands in the foreground, with palms, towers, a Statue of Liberty replica, and a sphinx motif creating a layered resort skyline. The small and large craft add depth above the busy architecture.
Reverse: A high-relief Intaglio Mint logo rests on a radial burst inside a stippled border. “ONE TROY OUNCE,” “.999 FINE SILVER,” and the year “2023” complete the hallmark design.
