UFOs Over London – An Arrival Above Westminster
London’s skyline has kept time through centuries of change, but these visitors are on a schedule of their own. Flying saucers hover over the clock tower, rooftops and city landmarks in this 2 troy ounce .999 fine silver round from Intaglio Mint’s UFO Sightings & Alien Abduction Series.
The Landmark Behind the Name
Often called Big Ben, the famous clock tower at Westminster is formally the Elizabeth Tower, renamed in 2012 to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. Big Ben is the nickname of the Great Bell inside. The Great Clock began ticking in May 1859, and the bell first sounded that July.
That familiar landmark anchors the imagined encounter. Its upright lines contrast with the rounded saucers, while the London Eye at the edge of the scene brings another distinctive shape into the composition. The city remains recognizable even as the sky introduces something entirely unexpected.
Obverse Design
The clock tower rises prominently beside a layered view of London buildings. Part of the London Eye appears at the left, and multiple disc-shaped craft hover above the rooftops. The close architectural detail below contrasts with the open spaces around the UFOs, giving this fictional scene both depth and a sense of anticipation.
Reverse Design
A large Intaglio Mint logo sits within a plain border. “TWO TROY OUNCES” and “.999 FINE SILVER” surround the emblem, with the year 2023 flanking the central design.
