Sleeping Cat – A Quiet Moment in Silver
Few sights are more familiar to a cat lover than a feline curled into a comfortable ball. Intaglio Mint’s Sleeping Cat round captures that peaceful pose in 2 troy ounces of .999 fine silver. The tightly coiled body suits the round’s circular shape, turning an everyday moment into a small sculptural portrait.
The Comfort of a Catnap
Cats rest in intervals throughout the day and often choose sleeping places that feel warm, comfortable and safe. Cats Protection notes that even a cat resting securely indoors retains instincts that keep it alert to possible threats. The apparent stillness of a sleeping cat therefore belongs to an animal built for both rest and rapid response.
That combination of independence, watchfulness and domestic familiarity has long made cats compelling artistic subjects. In ancient Egypt, cats were associated with the goddess Bastet. The British Museum’s collection includes small cat-shaped amulets as well as larger feline sculptures—evidence of an appreciation expressed through objects people could hold, wear or display.
This round takes its inspiration from the quieter side of feline life. Its subject is the recognizable sleeping pose itself, making it an approachable design for someone whose own cat has claimed a favorite chair, blanket or sunny corner.
A Naturally Circular Design
The obverse shows a tightly coiled cat. Its compact form draws attention to the animal’s restful posture, with the circular composition giving the subject a close, intimate feel. The design celebrates an ordinary gesture that needs little explanation to anyone who has shared a home with a cat.
The reverse features the large Intaglio Mint logo inside a plain border, reading “TWO TROY OUNCES” above and “.999 FINE SILVER” below, flanked by stars.
