1914-D Lincoln Cent Tribute 1 oz Silver Round
A familiar presidential portrait in a substantial silver tribute.
This round draws on the early Lincoln wheat cent, pairing the 1914 date and D mint-mark motif with Victor David Brenner’s recognizable portrait. One troy ounce of .999 fine silver gives the design a different scale and presence in a compact 30mm format.
Lincoln Enters American Coinage
The Lincoln cent debuted in 1909, the centennial year of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. Brenner’s portrait placed the president’s profile on a coin used in everyday transactions, making it one of the country’s most familiar images.
The original wheat reverse framed its central inscriptions with two wheat heads. That reverse remained part of the Lincoln cent design through 1958, before the Lincoln Memorial replaced it in 1959. The pairing on this tribute recalls the earlier period, when the portrait and wheat ears defined the coin’s identity.
Design Details
Obverse: Lincoln faces right, with “IN GOD WE TRUST” above and “LIBERTY” to the left. The date 1914 appears to the right, with a D below it recalling the Denver mint mark on the historic design.
Reverse: Wheat heads curve around the central inscriptions. “E PLURIBUS UNUM” follows the top rim; “ONE OUNCE” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” occupy the center, with the hallmark along the lower circumference.
Historic Design, Modern Identity
The date and mint-mark motif are design references. This is a privately minted silver round, not an original 1914-D cent. The “ONE OUNCE” inscription adapts the wheat-cent composition to the tribute’s silver weight while retaining its familiar visual balance.
