1921 High Relief Peace Dollar Tribute – 2 oz .999 Fine Silver
A radiant Liberty and an eagle at rest capture the hopeful spirit of one of America’s most admired silver dollars. The 1921 High Relief Peace Dollar Tribute brings Anthony de Francisci’s celebrated design to a substantial two troy ounce .999 fine silver round, with high relief that emphasizes the portrait’s flowing hair, pointed crown and sculptural depth.
A New Dollar for a New Era
The Peace dollar first entered production in December 1921, following the Morgan dollars struck earlier that year. Designed by Italian American sculptor Anthony de Francisci, it marked the nation’s return to peace after World War I. Its imagery moved away from a formal heraldic eagle toward a quieter scene: a bird perched above the word “PEACE,” looking toward the light.
The original 1921 issue’s high relief made a striking artistic statement, but it also challenged mass production. The Mint struggled to bring up the details in a single strike, and the demanding design shortened die life. That tension between sculpture and practical coinage is part of what makes the first-year Peace dollar so distinctive to collectors.
Obverse Design
Liberty faces left wearing a crown of long rays, with loosely gathered hair and strands sweeping behind her head. “LIBERTY” follows the upper border, while “IN GOD WE TRUST” flanks the portrait below. The date 1921 anchors the design and identifies the historic issue being honored.
Reverse Design
An eagle stands on a rock with an olive branch, the traditional emblem of peace. Sun rays rise from the lower right, and “PEACE” appears beneath the bird. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” retain the familiar arrangement of the original design, while “TWO TROY OZ.” identifies this tribute’s silver weight.
