The obverse presents Death as a skeletal, hooded figure riding forward upon the Pale Horse. With a long spear held across his body and a haunting procession following behind, the rider advances through a landscape filled with weapons, destruction, disease, and the many instruments through which death has claimed humanity across the ages. Above him, angelic figures surround the opened seal as the terrifying judgment unfolds.

The biblical passage from Revelation 6:8 follows the lower curve of the design:

“And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth.”

The common reverse unites the Seven Seals of the Apocalypse series beneath a richly symbolic design drawn from the Book of Revelation. At its center appears the Lamb, representing Christ, surrounded by the four living creatures—the lion, ox, man, and eagle. Above rests the sealed scroll, awaiting the breaking of each successive seal and the unfolding of the apocalyptic vision.
