2025 Kennedy Half – 1/2 Troy Oz .999 Fine Silver Round

A familiar presidential portrait takes a new form in our 2025 Kennedy Half silver round. This privately minted tribute brings the visual legacy of the Kennedy half dollar to a half-troy-ounce .999 fine silver format, pairing the left-facing portrait with Intaglio Mint’s own reverse. It is a collectible bullion round, not a United States coin or legal tender.

The History Behind the Portrait

The original Kennedy half dollar emerged from the nation’s mourning after President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in November 1963. On December 30 of that year, President Lyndon Johnson signed legislation directing production of the new coin. It entered the nation’s coinage in 1964.

Gilroy Roberts created the portrait obverse, while Frank Gasparro designed the original coin’s presidential-seal reverse. Their earlier work on Kennedy’s inaugural medal provided the starting point, helping the Mint move from concept to dies with remarkable speed. Gasparro recalled beginning the models on November 28 and completing trial dies by December 12, 1963.

This 2025-dated tribute carries that recognizable portrait tradition forward while clearly identifying its own weight, purity and private-mint origin on the reverse. The connection is artistic and historical; the bullion specifications belong to this modern round.

Obverse Design

Kennedy’s left-facing profile appears beneath the word “LIBERTY,” with “IN GOD WE TRUST” below the portrait and the date “2025” centered at the bottom. The design follows the dignified composition associated with Roberts’ original, including his “GR” initials at the base of the neck.

Reverse Design

A stylized Ionic column forms the central “T” of the Intaglio Mint emblem, accompanied by “INTAGLIO,” “MINT” and “EST. 2010.” Dotted and star borders frame the design. “ONE HALF TROY OUNCE” and “.999 FINE SILVER” identify the round’s bullion content.
