Phantom of the Opera – Vintage Horror 2 oz Silver Round
Behind the brilliance of the opera house lies a world of secrets. The Phantom of the Opera round brings Gaston Leroux’s mysterious character to the Vintage Horror Series, capturing an imposing figure in two troy ounces of .999 fine silver.
A Mystery Beneath the Music
First published in 1909–1910, Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera combines Gothic atmosphere with a mystery surrounding the Paris Opera. Strange events, whispered warnings, and demands attributed to an “Opera ghost” unsettle the people who work within its grand spaces.
At the center is Erik, a gifted but dangerous figure whose relationship with the singer Christine Daaé drives the story. His hidden world contrasts with the public spectacle of the stage, while Christine’s connection with Raoul complicates the Phantom’s efforts to control her life.
The novel’s lasting power comes from those contrasts: music and menace, beauty and concealment, sympathy and fear. The Phantom is not simply a supernatural apparition. He is a human character whose isolation and destructive choices create the terror beneath the legend.
Obverse Design
The Phantom faces forward with his arms crossed, dressed in an overcoat, vest, and tie. The formal clothing and closed pose give him a commanding, guarded presence, making the character’s theatrical intensity the focus of the round.
Reverse Design
VINTAGE appears above on an old movie-reel motif, with HORROR across the center and the hallmark along the bottom. The reverse connects the literary character with the atmosphere of classic screen horror and the broader series.
