Michael Archangel – 2 Troy Ounce .999 Fine Silver Round

Sword in hand and a defeated dragon’s head held beside him, Michael appears as a figure of resolve and protection. Intaglio Mint’s Michael Archangel round draws on a powerful tradition of Christian imagery, setting the heavenly defender before classical columns in two troy ounces of .999 fine silver.

The Heavenly Defender

In Revelation 12, Michael and his angels battle the dragon and drive it from heaven. The passage became a central source for images of Michael confronting evil, with artists giving visible form to a spiritual conflict through armor, weapons, and the dragon itself.

Across centuries of painting and sculpture, Michael could appear in the struggle or after the victory. The National Gallery’s collection includes examples by artists such as Carlo Crivelli and Pietro Perugino, demonstrating how the same subject could be interpreted with different gestures, settings, and degrees of drama.

This design presents the outcome of the encounter. The sword and dragon’s head make the theme immediately legible, while the standing pose gives Michael a composed presence. For collectors drawn to sacred art, the round connects a recognizable devotional subject with the enduring appeal of sculptural detail in silver.

Obverse Design

Michael stands on a stone platform, holding a sword in his right hand and a dragon’s head in his left. Greek-style columns and a surrounding structure form the background. “MICHAEL ARCHANGEL” above identifies the figure, whose upright stance anchors the composition.

Reverse Design

A large Intaglio Mint logo occupies the reverse within a plain border. The inscriptions “TWO TROY OUNCES” and “.999 FINE SILVER” identify the silver content, with six stars on each side separating the wording.
