UFOs Over Tenochtitlán – A Meeting of Distant Worlds
A stepped temple rises beneath a sky filled with flying saucers, while a figure in the foreground lifts both arms toward the visitors. This 1 troy ounce .999 fine silver round takes Intaglio Mint’s UFO Sightings & Alien Abduction Series into a setting inspired by Tenochtitlán, the great capital of the Mexica.
The City Behind the Inspiration
Tradition places the founding of Tenochtitlán around 1325 on an island in Lake Texcoco. At its sacred center stood the Templo Mayor, a double temple dedicated to Huitzilopochtli and Tláloc. Those paired dedications connected the city’s religious life with war, rain and the fertility on which agriculture depended.
The remains of that ceremonial center survive in the heart of modern Mexico City. They offer a tangible connection to the people who built and repeatedly enlarged their sacred buildings. This round uses an imaginative temple landscape as its setting, adding a science-fiction encounter rather than attempting an archaeological reconstruction.
Obverse Design
A broad stairway climbs the stepped structure on the left, with hills stretching across the background. Vegetation and textured ground frame the raised-arm figure at the right. Disc-shaped craft hover above, their smooth contours contrasting with the temple’s strong geometric lines and the rugged landscape below.
The scene leaves its story open: surprise, welcome or a question directed toward the sky. That moment of uncertainty is the heart of the design.
Reverse Design
The high-relief Intaglio Mint logo appears on a radial burst within a stippled border. “ONE TROY OUNCE” and “.999 FINE SILVER” identify the weight and purity, with the year 2023 flanking the central design.
