Ancient Art, Reimagined in Silver
The design recalls a Panormus tetradrachm type dated approximately 350–320 BCE. These Siculo-Punic coins borrowed closely from the celebrated coin art of Syracuse, showing how an accomplished design could travel between communities. The goddess portrait on this type reflects the influence of the Syracusan engraver Euainetos.
The appeal lies in the contrast between the two sides: a composed profile framed by flowing hair and dolphins, followed by the movement of horses and a charioteer. This is a modern silver tribute to that ancient artistic tradition; the historical date identifies its inspiration, not the age of the round.
Obverse: Kore-Persephone and Dolphins
Kore-Persephone faces left, wearing a barley-leaf wreath, earring and beaded necklace. Four dolphins surround the portrait, following the circular field. A small swastika beneath the chin reproduces a symbol found on the ancient prototype. Here it appears as a historical design detail from antiquity.
Reverse: The Racing Quadriga
A quadriga—a chariot drawn by four horses—races left. The charioteer holds the reins and a driving goad, while the winged figure of Nike approaches with a crown. An eight-rayed star appears above the horses, and Punic lettering occupies the space beneath the scene. The compact composition rewards a closer look at the horses, wheels and airborne figure.
