Design Features

The 2014-W Burnished Silver Eagle revives one of American numismatics’ most beloved motifs: Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty, originally featured on half dollars from 1916 to 1947. On the obverse, Liberty strides confidently toward the dawn, draped in the American flag, her right arm outstretched in welcome and promise, while her other arm cradles branches of laurel and oak—symbols of triumph and strength. The rising sun illuminates Liberty’s path, hinting at fresh hope for the nation, while the inscriptions "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and the year of issue serve as reminders of enduring ideals.
The reverse, crafted by John M. Mercanti, delivers a heraldic tableau of American resolve. A powerful eagle, shield at its breast, stands guard. In its talons, arrows speak to readiness and olive branches to peace; above, a halo of thirteen stars recalls the original colonies. The eagle clutches a ribbon in its beak bearing the motto "E Pluribus Unum," a nod to unity in diversity. "United States of America," alongside specifications of weight and purity, frame the emblem, underscoring national authenticity and the coin’s trusted bullion status.
